If you are considering chin liposuction, chances are you have lots of questions:
- How painful is chin liposuction?
- How long does chin liposuction recovery take?
- How long do I wear my garment after chin lipo?
- When will I see my results?
If this is you, pat yourself on the back.
Having questions about your plastic surgery procedure means you’re an intelligent, curious patient who plans to have an active role in the success of your surgery and recovery. When it comes to chin liposuction bad results are often caused by patients who don’t understand the importance of their active participation during recovery.
So, let’s dive in. Up ahead, we’ll go over what you can expect from chin liposuction recovery. Before we begin, however, let’s discuss what chin liposuction is and what you should expect in terms of overall pain and discomfort during chin lipo recovery.
We want you to have the best experience — and absolutely fabulous results — from your chin liposuction!
WHAT HAPPENS DURING CHIN LIPOSUCTION?
Chin liposuction, also known as submental liposuction, involves removing excess fat from beneath the chin and along the jawline so as to create a more attractive neck and chin contour.
The surgery itself is relatively quick and straightforward. The success rate is high, and overall, submental liposuction patients report being very satisfied with their results.
During chin liposuction, two to four small incisions are made discreetly around the treatment area. Your surgeon will then insert a cannula (a small, thin tube), and using a gentle suction, he or she will take out the excess fat from beneath the neck and chin.
The procedure requires close attention to detail and extensive experience. It’s important that the end result looks natural and well-contoured.
Once your incisions have been closed by your surgeon, you will be taken to a recovery room where you will be monitored by your surgeon’s staff for several hours until you are dismissed to go home. Chin lipo is an outpatient procedure, which means you’ll be able to go home on the same day as the surgery.
IS CHIN LIPO RECOVERY PAINFUL?
During the procedure itself, you won’t feel any pain as anesthesia will be used to make you comfortable. It’s common for some slight discomfort to accompany chin liposuction recovery. But in general, soreness should not last for more than a few days. Furthermore, the pain should be mild.
Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your incision sites and reduce pain. Be sure to follow these instructions for an optimal outcome.
CHIN LIPOSUCTION RECOVERY DAY BY DAY
Let’s move on to your chin liposuction recovery time, starting with what you can expect on day one.
DAY 1
The first day after chin lipo recovery may be the worst discomfort-wise. However, know that any pain will be short-lived. You’ll also have pain management options that can make you more comfortable.
When you arrive home on the day of your surgery, you will be in a chin strap and bandaging. These will need to be worn for several days or weeks. Dr. Mohan will discuss the length of time you’ll need to wear these items. Typically, the duration will depend on things like your age, skin quality/laxity, and the extent of your surgery.
During your initial recovery, do not exercise. Do not lift anything heavy. Do not expose your chin area/incisions to sunlight. And finally, do not submerge your face/neck in water.
Consume a healthy diet, and avoid alcohol, excessive caffeine, smoking, and foods that require a lot of chewing as this may be more uncomfortable than usual while you are healing. Finally, drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids.
How long is chin swollen after lipo?
Swelling is normal after any sort of liposuction, as is some slight bruising. Both will stick around for a while, but swelling, in particular, will likely last for several weeks. It will, however, get better and better every day. After three to four weeks, the swelling should be gone.
DAYS 2-3
If you had sutures during your procedure, these will likely be removed around this time. Depending on where you work and how you feel, you may be able to return to work at this point. Some patients decide to take an entire week off.
Although you should still refrain from exercise, taking short walks can be good for overall circulation. Continue eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of fluids.
For the rest of the first week, expect to feel a little better each day. If you’re starting to see results from your chin liposuction after 1 week, you’re on the right track. Swelling and bruising should be diminishing, and your skin should be starting to retract into place as your incisions heal.
WEEK 2 AND BEYOND
Most patients feel very good at week 2 of their chin lipo recovery. They are back at work or school and do not have much, if any, discomfort. You may still be wearing your headwrap and recovery garments, but you’ll likely be able to remove these soon.
Pain and much of the swelling should be gone, and you should not have much, if any, bruising at this point.
How long after chin lipo do you see results?
In general, complete chin lipo recovery takes about three to four weeks. At the three- to four-week mark, you should be able to see your full results and the diminished chin lipo scar.
HOW MUCH DOES CHIN LIPOSUCTION COST?
The cost of chin liposuction depends on several factors, including how much your particular surgeon charges, where you have the surgery performed, and the extent of the liposuction required in your particular case.
Your particular cost will vary, so always ask for a cost breakdown at your consultation appointment.
As an added precaution, be wary of any surgeon who charges a surprisingly low amount for chin liposuction. This procedure requires an artistic eye and experience performing detail work with a cannula. The incisions must be carefully made and closed so as not to be obvious after recovery. While you shouldn’t pay an exorbitant amount for the cost of liposuction, be sure to go with an experienced and well-trained Dallas plastic surgeon you can trust.
