Saline Breast Implants
Saline implants are approved for use by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for patients above the age of 18. These implants consist of a saline solution placed inside of an implant with a silicone shell (outer layer).
Benefits of saline implants are as follows:
- Less expensive than silicone implants
- Have a smaller breast implant incision
- Rupture of an implant is easily detectable
Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are approved for use in breast augmentation (enlargement) by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for patients above the age of 22. These implants are placed much more often than saline implants. The newest generation implants have a highly cohesive silicone gel placed inside of an implant with a silicone shell (outer layer).
Benefits of silicone implants are as follows:
- The surgical outcome is more natural in terms of look and feel
- Lower risk of complications related to rippling
What Are Gummy Bear Breast Implants?
These are silicone implants with silicone gel inside that is highly cohesive. To put it more simply, the gel keeps its form, similar to the inside of a gummy bear. If you were to cut the implant in half, you would not notice any silicone gel leaking out. These implants are believed to have a more natural feel and more fullness superiorly.
Round Implants
Round refers to the shape of the implant and most breast implants placed for breast augmentation or enlargement are round. The round shape provides more fullness and volume in the upper part of the breast. All of the major implant manufacturers (Mentor®, Allergan, and Sientra®) make round implants and Dr. Mohan provides all three options.
Anatomic (Shaped)
These natural-looking breast implants have a more natural shape which is why they are called anatomic. The implants are more expensive and more commonly used in breast reconstruction. These implants are also used with women who have very little breast tissue and desire a natural looking breast with more shape and volume.
Smooth vs. Textured Implants
These implants as the name suggests have a smooth exterior. Textured implants have a rougher surface and each implant company uses a different texturing process. Anatomic (shaped) implants are textured only.
Cost of Breast Implants in Dallas TX
The cost of Saline implants often less in price compared to silicone breast implants, while gummy bear and teardrop implants tend to be the more expensive options available.
