Rhinoplasty Cost Factors to Consider

Rhinoplasty Cost Factors To Consider

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions when patients come in for their rhinoplasty consultations. Naturally, patients want to know how much these procedures typically cost so that they can first, determine if this procedure is possible for them, and second, figure out financing.

While some patients have the total sum for rhinoplasty saved away to pay in full, many do not. Financing options allow patients to pay over time.

With that said, the average cost of rhinoplasty is difficult to estimate. After all, no experienced surgeon can make a realistic cost estimate for a nose job without first meeting with their patient in-person. To help you estimate your final cost for surgery prior to meeting with your surgeon, please consider the following:

Calculating the Total Cost of Rhinoplasty: Factors to Consider

The Type of Surgery

There are actually two broad categories of rhinoplasty: surgical rhinoplasty and non surgical rhinoplasty. The surgical procedure naturally requires anesthesia, incisions, and physical correction of the bone, skin, and/or tissue of the nasal area.

Non surgical rhinoplasty, on the other hand, is performed mainly with dermal fillers. These injectables can often be used to correct issues of asymmetry, small bumps on the nasal bridge, or cosmetic concerns on the nasal tip (among other concerns).

Of course, the costs of these procedures will vary drastically. Non surgical rhinoplasty is less expensive than surgical rhinoplasty. With that said, it is also non-permanent, so touch-ups will need to be made periodically to maintain results.

Where You Undergo Surgery (Geographic Location)

The geographic location where you undergo surgery will also impact the overall cost of your procedure. In larger urban areas and big cities, surgery costs tend to be higher overall. This is primarily because the cost of living is higher, the demand for surgery is higher, and frequently, more skilled and reputable surgeons populate these areas.

Where You Undergo Surgery (Surgical Facility or Hospital)

In addition to geographic location, the surgery center or hospital where you undergo surgery will also impact your overall cost. Hospitals and surgical facilities charge different amounts based on their location, how much time you spend in the operating room, how many staff members are required for your surgery and aftercare, how long you spend in the recovery room, and the technology and equipment that is required for your procedure.

All of these expenses and others will be factored into your final facility cost. Sometimes, your surgeon will include this in their overall fees, and other times, it may be billed separately.

Who Your Surgeon Is

The average rhinoplasty cost will be most affected by your plastic surgeon’s fee. An experienced surgeon who is in high demand may charge more than a surgeon who is just starting out or someone who rarely performs rhinoplasty.

Consultation Fees

All surgical procedures require an initial consultation appointment, and plastic surgery is no exception. At your consultation, you will discuss your objectives, undergo a physical exam, ask questions, review your medical history, and look at rhinoplasty before and after pictures.

Consultation fees often apply. Some surgeons may wave this fee, however. Alternatively, they may apply any fee they charge to your final bill if you decide to go with them for your cosmetic surgery.

Who Your Anesthesiologist Is

Anesthesia is another essential element of your final bill. Anesthesiologists may charge different rates based on their experience and qualifications, what type of anesthesia you require, how long your surgery is, and other factors.

Follow-Up Appointment Fees

After your surgery, you will need to meet with your surgeon and their team for regular follow-up appointments. Sometimes, surgeons will include the cost of these appointments in their overall pricing, but they may also be charged separately, especially if additional appointments become necessary.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Costs

After all cosmetic procedures, including rhinoplasty, patients will be required (or encouraged) to make certain purchases for recovery items. For rhinoplasty, you may need to purchase cold compresses to reduce swelling, silicone sheets or gel to reduce the appearance of scars, prescription medications, or comfort pillows to keep your head elevated while resting and sleeping.

Rhinoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a rhinoplasty cost with insurance?

Some rhinoplasty procedures can be covered by health insurance, but it always depends on the circumstances of your procedure, your particular insurance company, and your individual plan.

If you are undergoing reconstructive surgery to correct a chronic breathing issue such as a deviated septum (often called functional rhinoplasty) or nose surgery to fix disfigurement after an accident, for example, insurance is more likely to consider these procedures medically necessary and offer coverage. A cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure performed solely for aesthetic purposes, however, will rarely be covered.

Why is rhinoplasty so expensive?

How Much Does Rhinoplasty CostAlthough the cost of rhinoplasty surgery is significant, remember that this is a serious surgical procedure. A tremendous amount of skill and technique is required, as well as advanced technologies and top-of-the-line medical staff and equipment.

Likewise, keep in mind that going to a plastic surgeon who charges a significant amount less than most other board certified plastic surgeons is a red flag and could cause serious problems for you. Having any plastic surgery procedure performed by someone who is under-qualified may result in serious medical issues, poor results, and the need for revision rhinoplasty.

Unfortunately, revision rhinoplasty is often even more expensive than the initial cosmetic procedure and can be difficult to execute successfully after a botched rhinoplasty. Always make sure your surgeon is board certified and well-experienced at your plastic surgery consultation.
